Kuang Si Waterfall · Luang Prabang
Forest pools, waterfall trails & Mekong sunsets.
The Experience
Our featured Manifa Travel trip pairs independent time at Kuang Si with a rice-farm stop and a Mekong cruise.
Not included: Waterfall admission: LAK 100,000 stated by the operator on 7 November 2026. Meals and additional drinks.
Choose your visit
Choose a waterfall visit with a Mekong sunset return. Pick an afternoon departure for a shorter outing, or a morning departure for more time at the pools. Hotel transfers and one cruise drink are included; park admission and meals are extra. Select your date, party size and departure option below.
Four choices to settle before your waterfall day.
Start with time at the falls. The afternoon option provides about two hours there, while morning departures allow a longer visit. Check the actual option name and pickup time; the headline five-hour duration describes the shorter outing, not every departure.
Choose your date and number of travelers, then read the selected option’s final price and conditions. The featured trip includes transport, the sunset cruise and one drink. Waterfall admission and meals are separate, so leave room for those in your budget.
Give the operator your Luang Prabang accommodation details and read the pickup instructions in your confirmation. Ask directly about locations outside the central pickup area. Keep your voucher available and follow the confirmed pickup time rather than a general timetable on this guide.
Bring swimwear, a towel, comfortable shoes and a change of clothes. Carry funds for park entry and food. Before leaving the vehicle, agree the meeting point and return time; keep enough time for both the forest paths and the boat transfer.
Inside the featured trip

Plan the day
Kuang Si is a place to visit; a tour is a way to organise the journey. That distinction matters when comparing prices. Some trips include park admission, while others cover transport and activities but leave the entrance ticket to you. A waterfall-and-sunset booking is also different from a full day combining Pak Ou Caves, a village walk or a cooking class. Start with the time you want at the pools, then decide what else belongs in the day.
Our featured Kuang Si Waterfalls & Sunset Cruise is operated by Manifa Travel. It combines hotel transfers, free time at the falls, a rice-farm stop and a Mekong return. The shorter afternoon departure allows about two hours at Kuang Si. Morning options give a longer stay, either arriving by minivan or combining a morning boat journey with a road transfer. The listing-wide starting price shown above does not establish the price of every option.
For a visit centred on the cascades, the morning minivan option leaves the most time within the featured listing. That can be useful if you prefer to walk slowly, photograph several viewpoints or take a lunch break without squeezing everything into an afternoon slot. The afternoon version is a more compact outing, but its two hours at the park must cover walking, changing, swimming and getting back to the meeting point.
If Pak Ou is also on your list, the Pak Ou Caves & Kuang Si combination combines both places with river travel and lunch. You trade a long waterfall stay for a varied nine-hour day. Read our caves-and-waterfall guide for the difference between upstream and downstream options. For a broader comparison, choose the Kuang Si tour that fits your day.
The pools and main cascade offer different experiences. Give yourself time to walk and look before settling in one spot. A swim is optional: the falls, forest and viewpoints can still make the outing worthwhile if you prefer to remain dry. Only enter pools where swimming is permitted, and follow the signs and staff instructions on the day. Photographs of other visitors in the water do not establish that a particular pool is open now.
Keep your return arrangements in mind before heading farther along a trail. The featured trip gives you free time, not unlimited time, and the boat connection depends on everyone meeting again. Choose footwear for walking as well as for time around water. A towel, dry clothes and a bag for wet swimwear make the transfer back more comfortable. Our swimming guide explains how to plan pool time without assuming every itinerary has the same allowance.
The featured listing checked on 7 November 2026 excludes Kuang Si admission and quotes LAK 100,000 for the park ticket. Meals and extra drinks are also excluded; one drink on the cruise is included. The Pak Ou combination excludes both waterfall and cave admission. The private village tour, by contrast, lists attraction entrance fees as included. Compare the whole day’s costs, rather than only the headline tour price.
Keep costs in their original currencies when making a decision. The displayed tour prices are in US dollars, while on-site admission is stated in Lao kip. A rounded dollar conversion is not a fixed exchange rate or a promise about what the gate accepts. Check your selected booking option and carry funds for the explicitly excluded items. The price and inclusion guide puts the six itineraries side by side.
The village and forest trek uses routes of roughly five or nine kilometres, with different elevation profiles and lunch stops. It deserves walking shoes and a realistic assessment of your party’s fitness. The rice-field adventure also involves an uphill walk along traditional paths; its rural setting does not make it a flat park stroll. Neither should be selected solely because the waterfall photograph looks appealing.
For a hands-on alternative, the bamboo weaving and cooking day spends the morning on craft and food before an afternoon at Kuang Si. The private village excursion instead combines cultural stops, a private guide and the falls. These are separate products with their own inclusions, restrictions and prices. Read the relevant tour page before choosing an activity for children or anyone who needs an easier walking day.
The featured sunset itinerary describes a return to Luang Prabang around 6:30 PM, followed by a hotel transfer. An earlier minivan return around 5:30 PM is described as an alternative. Those times are approximate, and the longer morning departures do not finish earlier simply because they start earlier. Avoid treating a general itinerary as a guarantee for a train, flight or another fixed booking.
A central Luang Prabang stay can make pickup coordination straightforward, but the operator must confirm your actual address. A hotel across the Nam Khan or outside the central area may need a different arrangement. Use our accommodation guide to compare locations, then settle pickup with the tour provider. Once those details are clear, the useful decision is simple: how much of the day do you want to spend at Kuang Si, and how much on the journey around it?

Practical answers for the featured trip and its alternatives.
It depends on the product. The featured sunset trip excludes admission and quotes LAK 100,000 at the source check. The private village excursion lists entry as included. Read the price and inclusion comparison before booking.
The tour listings allow time for swimming in designated pools. Access depends on on-site conditions and restrictions; follow signs and staff instructions. Swimming is optional. See the swimming guide for planning advice.
The featured afternoon outing is listed at about five hours, with around two hours at the falls. Morning options last longer. The cave combination and forest trek are listed at nine hours, while the private village and bamboo trips are around eight hours.
The featured waterfall-and-sunset trip does not include Pak Ou. Book the separate cave combination if you want both attractions. Our Pak Ou and Kuang Si guide explains the two route directions.
Within the featured listing, the morning minivan departure provides the longest time at Kuang Si. Select that option explicitly; the afternoon option allows about two hours and has a different overall schedule.
The village-and-forest trek listing marks children under eight as unsuitable. Its routes involve roughly five to nine kilometres, with uneven and potentially slippery paths. Compare the trekking routes with a standard waterfall transfer.
Bring comfortable shoes, swimwear, a towel, dry clothes, sun protection and insect repellent. Keep money for admission and meals if excluded. Read the packing guide for differences between a pool visit and a trek.
The listed trips depart from Luang Prabang, with hotel pickup arrangements varying by product. Confirm your exact address with the operator. Our where-to-stay guide compares central, riverside and quieter bases.
The six checked listings advertise free cancellation up to 24 hours before the activity. Your selected booking terms and confirmation control the deadline. Hotel cancellation terms are separate and must be checked for the room rate you choose.
